  Editor's Note (Toru Nakagawa, Oct. 6, 2014)

I have made a number of "From the Editor" pages so far from time to time in order to write on the purposes and operation policy of the present site, information of improvements/extensions, messages, etc.  Such pages are located at different places (mostly under 'TRIZ Forum') in the page categories as well as in the folder structure.  Now, on the occasion of introducing the four Entrance Pages and reorganizing the General Index pages, I have decided to make this Index Page and to accumulate all the Editorial pages with brief introduction and one-click hyperlinks.

Principal, standing Editorial pages are listed at the top, and then (selected) historical and new Editorial pages are listed below.  (Please refer to the 'General Index (A) Editorial' for more detail.)

From the Editor:  Message for the New Year 2021 (Toru Nakagawa, Jan. 3, 2021)   (Jan. 5, 2021)

On the 22nd Anniversary of  "TRIZ Home Page in Japan" (Toru Nakagawa) (Nov. 11, 2020)

This Web site "TRIZ Home in Japan" celebrated its 22nd Anniversary on Nov. 1. I am very grateful to you all, including authors, translators, and readers in Japan and around the world, for your continuing support.  This site serves as an open forum of information exchange for better understanding and usage of Creative Problem Solving Methodologies.  Initially, I intended to introduce TRIZ, a Russian-based methodology for mostly technological areas, but along with the development of such methodologies the scope of this site became wider and deeper year after year.  TRIZ itself has evolved to wider application including business and marketing, and has been spreading widely in the world.  My own research has extended to USIT as an easy-to-learn TRIZ, the Six-Box Scheme as a new paradigm of creative problem solving, and CrePS (General Methodology of Creative Problem Solving) which intends to integrate and unify various methods by using the Six-Box Scheme.  I found the fundamental contradictions in Human Culture and their solution directions in the relationships of Liberty-Love-Ethics.  Such history of of "TRIZ Home Page in Japan" is recently written in "Site Introduction (Features and Selected Articles)" (Feb. 13, 2020).

This site is meant to openly publish information and communications on a not-for-profit basis.  Though I have been operating this site as a volunteer, this site is not a personal site but a public forum to be composed of the contributions by readers, as you see already.  Most pages are published in Japanese and in English in parallel for the purpose of mutual understanding and collaboration between Japanese and overseas people.  Four Entrance Pages have been installed in 2012 for your easy access to articles.  Since November 2017, we have been working as World TRIZ-related Sites Project (WTSP) and reported the completion of World Catalogs of TRIZ and Around-TRIZ sites at five conferences during this autumn (Nov. 11, 2020).  For enhancing them further, let's work Together ! Connected !!

I wish this Home Page be useful for you readers to solve your various problems.  Readers' contributions either in English or in Japanese are heartily welcome.

From the Editor:  Message for the New Year 2020 (Toru Nakagawa, Jan. 14, 2020 ) (Jan. 14, 2020)

On the start of New Year 2020, I wish you all the year be healthy, happy, successful, and the World be peaceful. (Sorry but because of the passing away of my younger brother Akira Nakagawa last March at the age of 75, I would refrain from celebrating the new year.)
Situations in the world, as well as in Japan, are getting unstable and more difficult in many aspects.  In such circumstances, we are studying and promoting 'Creative problem solving methodologies'.  I often feel what I can think and what I can contribute to the society and the world are quite small.  But we have only to accumulate such small things day after day.
Reflecting the last year, I am thinking what I should do this year.  A brief list of them are:
(1) World TRIZ-related Sites Project (WTSP): Last year we have built the First, preliminary version of the World WTSP Catalogs.  This year we should extend and improve them much more.  We have to make them evaluated as "The WTSP Catalogs are usefull to find good and important TRIZ-related sites with fair and close introductions".  For getting such evaluations we need to make good examples of site descriptions after close surveys.
(2) Continuing the studies and promotion of Creative problem solving methodologies:  Study and introduce excellent papers and articles in the world, build the Dr. Ed Sickafus Memorial Archives (on USIT and his further extensions), make some overview maps of various relevant methodologies, translate the "CID course for chldren" (authored by Natalia Rubina) into Japanese, etc. etc.
(3) Further investigate my findings about "Liberty vs Love Contradictions and Ethics".
(4) Try to keep my own daily life creative, healthy, and peaceful. I am now learning photography; See the results:

The number of visits since November 2005 is (on Oct. 31) 239,693 (increasing by about 2,500 for the last 1 year) to the top page in Japanese and 44,785 (increasing by about 1,500) to that in English.  I wish this Home Page be useful for you readers to solve your various problems.  Readers' contributions either in English or in Japanese are heartily welcome.

From the Editor: A Summary of My Recent Research:  From the Methodology for Creative Problem Solving in the Field of Science and Technology, Getting Insights on the Roots of Social Problems (Toru Nakagawa)  (Aug. 6, 2016)

Just before the election of the House of Councilors, I made a summary of my recent research, and sent it via post to about 250 people and posted it here.
(1) I have clarified the structure of ‘General Methodology of Creative Problem Solving (CrePS)’. (ref. TRIZCON2016 Presentation.)
(2) For applying CrePS to social problems, I visualized the logic of Fujita’s Book “The Low-living Elderly” in diagrams.  (ref. A pamphlet of 24 pages of visualized LLE diagrams.)
(3) I critically reviewed the 82 customer reviews of the LLE book posted at the Amazon.co.jp site, and found in people a serious lack of understanding of social thoughts and social ethics.  Considering its roots, I have recognized that ‘Liberty vs. Love’ is ‘the Principal Contradiction in the Human Culture’.  Human Culture has been trying to solve the Principal Contradiction, but the contradiction has become even more complex and difficult to solve in many aspects.  As we learned in TRIZ, we should recognize/understand the contradiction first and then working to solve the contradiction.  (ref. ‘Liberty vs. Love’: The Principal Contradiction Inherent in the Human Culture. )

On the 15th Anniversary of  "TRIZ Home Page in Japan" (Toru Nakagawa) (Nov. 17, 2013)

This Web site "TRIZ Home Page in Japan" celebrates its 15th Anniversary on Nov. 1 together with readers in Japan and over the world.  This site is to promote the understanding and real usage of TRIZ by openly publishing information and communications related to TRIZ on a not-for-profit basis.  Though I have been operating this site as a volunteer, this site is not a personal site but a public forum to be composed of the contributions by readers, as you see already.  Most pages are published in Japanese and in English in parallel for the purpose of mutual understanding and collaboration between Japanese and overseas TRIZ learners/practitioners.  I envisage that Pubic Web Sites built in different TRIZ Communities will form A Global TRIZ Community with much reduced language barriers .  Since last year I have been proposing to establish a General methodology for creative problem solving & task achieving by integrating various creativity methods including TRIZ/USIT .  I am going to widen the scope of this Web site gradually in future.   The number of visits since November 2005 is (on Nov. 6) 197,984 (increasing by about 18,000 for the last 1 year) to the top page in Japanese and 33,497 (increasing by about 3,400) to that in English.  Readers' contributions either in English or in Japanese are heartily welcome.

Editorial: Collaboration Pages with the Promoters of TRIZ and Related Areas: Aims and Call for Contributions (May 10, 2013)

Three years ago we started 'Collabo Pages' in Japanese. Since they may be productive also under international cooperation, I am now posting the descriptions of the aims of the pages and call for your contributions. Collabo pages accept contributions of (relatively brief) introductions/communications by different TRIZ promoters in Japan and in the world more-or-less regularly. This may be a new way of cooperation for proliferating TRIZ, much stronger than simple mutual links. [This page was prepared for posting on Dec. 24, 2010, but missed.]

   Editorial: To-Do-List for TRIZ(May 8; May 10, 2013)

A list of items which we should better do (with this Web site) for understanding and penetrating TRIZ is revised after 4 years of interval (in Japanese). (a) Revision of the list of TRIZ references and the list of TRIZ links (in Japan and in the world), (b) Introductory pages (or sub-sites) friendly to TRIZ novices, younger people, and children, (c) Collaborative pages with various TRIZ promoters, (d) Japanese translation of important overseas papers/articles, (e) English translation of important Japanese papers/articles, etc. Publication of books and training activities are also important for me to do. I wish the readers to cooperate with me in these activities.

Editorial:  Site Search in the "TRIZ Home Page in Japan" is now available (Toru Nakagawa) (Feb. 20, 2014)

Since the accumulation of articles has become so large in this site, I have set up the keywrod search facility of this site by using Google Custom Search Engine.  Search for English pages   and search for Japanese pages are available.

From the Editor: General Index of this site has been revised    (Jan. 9, 2013)

The present site has a powerful feature that all the articles accumulated for over 14 years are kept active with easy access.  The General Index page is the key tool for the purpose.  All the articles are classified into their categories and arranged in the chronological order (the latest at the top) in each (sub)category, and are accessible by one click to the individual pages.  In the revision this time, the overall structure is kept as before without change but the categorization is slightly revised and is shown more clearly with the color coding of the table and in a consistent formatting.  There are a number of articles which are added from missing, enhanced in the reference, moved to more appropriate subcategories, etc.  The index is quite large, of 37 printed pages in English and of 30 in Japanese, and yet useful and handy for accessing articles you want.

From the Editor: Message for the New Year 2013   (Jan. 9, 2013)

Greetings from Japan for a Happy New Year 2013! I have resigned by the end of last December from the Board and Management Members of the Japan TRIZ Society, NPO. But I still have a strong will to "develop TRIZ/USIT further and make it useful for solving problems and achieving tasks in many and different issues in Japan and in the World", and continue to be active as the Editor of the "TRIZ Home Page in Japan" as before. I wish to make this home page a 'Public site' really useful for learners and practitioners of TRIZ/USIT in collaboration with many authors and readers in Japan and in the World.

From the Editor: Message: On Retiring Osaka Gakuin University (Toru Nakagawa)   (Apr. 9, 2012)

I have retired Osaka Gakuin University by the end of March at the fixed age (plus 1). During these 14 years while I was working at Faculty of Informatics of OGU (and even during many more years while I was a student, and was working for the University of Tokyo and later for Fujitsu Limited), I have been owing much to you among many others for your kind support and collaboration. I am sincerely grateful to you all.
On the retirement, Osaka Gakuin University has given me the title of Professor Emeritus of OGU, and has allowed me to use my OGU email address permanently and kindly further to continue the operation of "TRIZ Home Page in Japan" in the OGU Web site. In addition, on a voluntary basis, I am going to continue my work as one of the Board Members of Japan TRIZ Society, NPO, and as the Program Chairperson of TRIZ Symposium in Japan to be held by JTS.  Thus I am going to continue my TRIZ/USIT activities in a way almost same as before.

On March 11, 2011 a huge earthquake (of Magnitude 9.0) and the subsequent tsunami hit Japan in the north-eastern part and caused terrible disasters, including about 30,000 (and still increasing) dead and unfound, and critical difficulty in cooling down the nuclear power plant complex. I sincerely mourn for the victims and pray for comfort for the people in the disaster.  Having received many email messages of condolence and encouragement from our readers overseas, I am posting them in the Japanese page for transferring warm messages and also in the English page for sharing information and warmth of hearts.  We Japanese thank you all so much.  (Mar. 23, 2011)

Forum: From the Editor: Global Network of Public Web Sites in TRIZ: A Proposal for Building A Global TRIZ Community (3) (Toru Nakagawa)  (Oct. 27, 2010)

A poster proposal at ETRIA TFC 2010.  This is a vision and proposal for building a Global TRIZ Community effectively. My proposal is: (1) Let's build many Public Web sites in different TRIZ communities, and (2) set both outward-looking and inward-looking windows on them for overcoming the language barriers, and (3) form an autonomous global network of them in the Internet.  This vision was obtained through my 12 years of operation of this Web site "TRIZ Home Page in Japan", and advocating it since 2007.

TRIZ Bibliography: List of TRIZ Selected Papers Written by Overseas Authors and Contributed to "TRIZ Home Page in Japan" since 1998 (Toru Nakagawa) (Feb. 8, 2008)

Selected Papers in TRIZ are listed here; the papers written by Overseas (i.e. non-Japanese) authors and posted (or to be posted) in English and/or in Japanese in this Web site "TRIZ Home Page in Japan" for these 10 years since 1998.  All these are excellent papers I have learned much; many of them are openly available in English (or in Japanese) either in this Web site or in their original sources, but still many others are waiting for translation into Japanese and for posting.  We recently obtained the approval by TRIZCON and ETRIA of posting original English versions here after several months of the conference even prior to Japanese translation under the permissions by the authors and the conference organizers.]

TRIZ Forum: From the Editor: The Role of "TRIZ Home Page in Japan": Towards a Public Site (Toru Nakagawa)   (Nov. 1, 2007)

I have described about the current situations and the target direction of this site.  This site should not be a private site but intends to be a public one which accepts contributions by many authors and readers (in Japan and the world) and publicizes various TRIZ-related information actively from public viewpoints.  A lot of things should be done for this purpose, and several tasks are now back-logged.  I should very much appreciate your voluntary support for such a goal.

Forum: Introduction to: "TRIZ Home Page by Students for Students" (Toru Nakagawa) (Mar. 17, 2006)

Four students who are just going to graduate our university at the end of this month have built a Web site named as "TRIZ Home Page for Students by Students".  They wrote the pages in my seminar class on 'Methodologies for Creative Problem Solving'.  The students frankly discussed on 'What have we learned in this class?' in early February and made a vivid record on their thoughts just before the graduation.  They also describe the activities in the seminar, group practices of problem solving, and their thesis works.  The site was initially planned to introduce TRIZ/USIT to students more or less formally, but was now built to describe much more frankly what the students learned and thought about.  The students pages are published in this site but separately in the editorship.

This home page has been established as an open forum of information exchange for better understanding and usage of TRIZ, especially based in Japan.   For the TRIZ methodology to be accepted widely in industrial sections and technological fields, we believe, not only profit-based activities by promotors and acceptors but also nonprofit-based and open activities of promotion, research, and education are necessary.  This home page is established as a nonprofit-based forum of open information exchange and publication, and is operated on a volunteer basis.
Readers' contributions are heartly welcome, including introductory articles, papers, technical reports, case studies, news and topics, questions, comments, etc. on the topics of TRIZ and related areas.
