USIT: A Concise Process for Creative Problem Solving
Based on the Paradigm of the Six-Box Scheme
-- USIT Manual and USIT Case Studies --Toru Nakagawa (Osaka Gakuin University, Professor Emeritus)
Journal of Japan Creativity Society, Vol. 19, pp. 64-84 (2015)
[Abstract]
USIT (Unified Structured Inventive Thinking) was originally developed by Ed Sickafus in 1985 as a concise whole process for creative problem solving.
It has been developed further in Japan by the present author since 1999.
Especially, the basic framework of USIT was established in the form of the Six-Box Scheme in 2005.
By using the Six-Box Scheme as a new paradigm, we have found it possible to integrate a large variety of creativity/innovation methods and to unify them into the ‘General Methodology of Creative Problem Solving (CrePS)’ in 2013.In the present paper we have made the ‘USIT Manual’ and a Collection of USIT Case Studies by re-describing over-10 case studies in the Six-Box Scheme.
Besides introducing them, we are going to discuss about
the concept of the Six-Box Scheme,
feasibility of integrating into (or constructing) CrePS,
the process of USIT especially in the idea generation step, and
further tasks for achieving the CrePS methodology and its concise & practical process USIT.Keywords: Creative problem solving, Six-Box Scheme, CrePS, USIT, basic paradigm
