Editor's Note (Toru Nakagawa, Dec. 29, 2014)
This paper was presented two years ago at Japan TRIZ Symposium 2012. The presentation was arranged in a single session for 20 minutes just after an invited talk, even though ordinary contributed papers were presented in double tracks for 30 minutes. The presentation was evaluated highly in its easiness and effectiveness, and obtained the `Best Presentation for Me' Award as the results of voting by participants. (Concerning to Japan TRIZ Symposium 2012, this site "TRIZ Home Page in Japan" posted detailed official information in the preparation stage
as well as after the Symposium
. But, to my regret, I could not write my 'Personal Report'.)
This year last September at Japan TRIZ Symposium 2014, Mr. Yoshinori Takagi gave another nice presentation
. He has also published an excellent and attractive book, "TRIZ 40 Inventive Principles: A 'Scientific' Thinking Tool Useful Everywhere for Problem Solving", from Discover 21, Inc., Tokyo In the present site, I am posting the introduction to his book and some communications with him in a separate page of TRIZ Forum
![]()
. In the Amazon.co.jp site, the book has been sold very well; actually No. 1 seller in the category of 'Science & Technology >> Inventions and patents' last 3 months. Congratulations!
In the present page, the extended abstract is posted both in HTML and PDF, while the presentation slides are referred to the PDF file
posted in the Japan TRIZ Society's Official Web site (publicly accessible). In the Japanese page
, I am posting the Extended Abstract and the Presentation Slides in HTML (using images) for better chances of readers' eyes.

Symbolize TRIZ 40 principles
Yoshinori Takagi (Sony Corp.)
8th TRIZ Symposium in Japan, Sept. 6-8, 2012, at Waseda University, Tokyo
Abstract
As you know, TRIZ 40 inventive principles is a basic & very powerful tool. 40 is too many to memorize, but, very easy to use if you can know it by heart. Then, I symbolized 40 principles. For example, 1st “Segmentation Principle” is represented by a couple of hemisphere, which separated by “1”. 2nd “Taking Out” is represented by a large Circle and a small filled Circle. 3rd”Local quality” is represented by a Triangle with 1 colored corner. As a result, the increased availability of matrix and contradiction, made it easier to reverse TRIZ. Also contributed to improve the productivity of the idea creator.
