Editor's Note (Toru Nakagawa, Sept. 22, 2010)

This paper was presented last year at the 5th TRIZ Symposium in Japan, 2009 in an Poster session.

The Author has been leading 'Miyagi TRIZ Study Group', i.e. a group of volunteers based in Sendai city.  The group is working for the promotion of TRIZ-based methodologies of creative technology development and product develoment towards local industries including SMEs.  For this purpose, they try to devise easy techniques to apply and handy tools for supporting such techniques.

This prensentation reports the results of such activities.  They conducted a series of open short seminars for explaining and practicing TRIZ techniques one by one.  The trainees, often heading R&D departments, tried to use the TRIZ techniques in their organization.  However they, being still beginners of TRIZ, met difficulties in using TRIZ techniques.  For supporting them, the Author has developed simple tools.  The most popular one among them is the "9windows" tool to be used in the idea generation meeting for new product development.  It is like a 'white map' of 9 windows, having the framework and simple remarks.  The technique/tool development by the Author's group is simple, flexible, and pleasant.

Since only 4 slides are availabl in English translation, my introduction to this presentation was just brief to my regret in the "Personal Report".

Abstract

Mi-TRIZ conducted a TRIZ study meeting open to the public. The participants having attended this meeting tried to use TRIZ at the meetings in their own companies, but they had a hard time in common. Mi-TRIZ wanted to overcome this situation and worked on the development of a tool that would make it easy to use TRIZ when running a meeting. Finally, Mi-TRIZ developed a whiteboard tool that designed the “9windows” which was in the highest demand. This presentation will introduce the real tool and report the results of the questionnaire survey on it.

Rikie Ishii ([Miyagi TRIZ Study Group (Mi-TRIZ)] IDEAPLANT) [J20 P-B3] gave a Poster presentation with the title of "Development of a Tool That Supports TRIZ Leaders during Idea Generation Meetings: 9-Windows Board".  Here is the Author's Abstract:

Mi-TRIZ [Miyagi TRIZ Study Group] conducted a TRIZ study meeting open to the public.

The tool developed in the present work is shown in the slide (right).  This is a large size (about 1 m in width) laminated paper with the design of the format of 9 windows method.  This paper is typically spread on the table (or on the wall) for the discussion meeting for developing a new product.  Guided with the 9 window framework and brief items for suggestions, the members of the meeting are facilitated to fill in the blank parts while the discussion.  Users found it easy to fill in the windows and effective in discussion, especially to think of productive ideas and to form consensus of the members.

*** The Authors, who are based in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, have made appoaches always attractive for SMEs.
