Editor's Note (Toru Nakagawa, Nov. 16, 2004)

The Author, Dr. Zhao Xinjun, is Director of Industrial Design Course, School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Northeastern University, located at Shenyang City in P.R. China.  During this autumn he is staying in Japan as an Exchange Researcher at Kansai University, which is located at the same city, Suita, with Osaka Gakuin University.  Dr. Zhao visited me at my lab on Oct. 22, with the assistance by Dr. Junichi Kurata of Kansai Univ.

Dr. Zhao told me that he has been working on TRIZ for several years and has just published a TRIZ textbook in Chinese, which is the second of TRIZ textbooks originally written in China.  He wants to learn recent activities and trends in TRIZ research and says "TRIZ Home Page in Japan" is useful in China.

After the meeting, I asked him to write a short communication about TRIZ activities in China so as to be posted in this Web site.  Thus he wrote this article as you see in the attached PDF file.  (Names of researchers and organizations are written both in English and in Chinese characters.)

The main points of the communication are:
(1)  TRIZ has been introduced into China since 1998.
(2)  There are about 10 academic/industrial sites active in research/education of TRIZ.
(3)  The principal TRIZ activities in China are currently: (a) Preparing Chinese editions of TRIZ software tools, (b) Training and education of TRIZ to engineers and students, and (c) Trials of applying TRIZ to industrial problems.

This article gives us a nice opportunity  for us to learn the current situations of TRIZ in the emerging giant country, China.   I would like to note the difficulty in writing this kind of review in the situation that a number of organizations and individuals are emerging to work rather independently while being distributed in the big country.  We should appreciate it if any researcher in China could add and update further information in near future.
