Editor's Note (Toru Nakagawa, May 3, 2009)
This paper was presented at the Fourth TRIZ Symposium in Japan, 2008
, which was held last September by 'Japan TRIZ Society, NPO'. The presentation was given in an Oral session on the second day afternoon. The Author has organized a TRIZ study group in Sendai City and is actively promoting TRIZ to SMEs. On the basis of Inquiries to over 1000 SMEs in Miyagi Prefecture, the Author's group has developed three handy and useful TRIZ tools. The vivid presentation attracted much interest of the Symposium participants.
Japan TRIZ Society is going to post the presentation files of all the Contributed Presentations in the 'Members-Only' area of its Official Web site (http://www.triz-japan.org/ ) in PDF in May-June, 2009. The present site, "TRIZ Home Page in Japan", on the other hand, is going to post several selected Contributed Presentations publicly, under the desire & permisson by the Authors and under the understanding by the Japan TRIZ Society. Presentation slides of them will be posted in PDF, with the policy of updating prohibited, copying and printing permitted.
The presentation slides are posted here in English in PDF
. I also post my introduction to this wonderful presentation, in the form of an excerpt of my "Personal Report of Japan TRIZ Symposium 2008"
posted on Oct. 26, 2008. The introduction is now translated into Japanese and posted in my Japanese page of this site, together with the Author's presentation slides in PDF
.
Author's Message to the readers (Apr. 20, 2009):
The "TRIZ Wisdom Cards" which we developed in 2007 and reported in the TRIZ Symposium 2007
have obtained accesses from a large number of companies having interests in TRIZ. In some public organizations and universities the tool has been utilized in their workshops for generating creative ideas.
Lately, we received multiple requests for an English edition of the "TRIZ Wisdom Cards". And hence in December 2008, we developed its English edition, in the name of "Idea Pop-up Cards".
When I visited several US companies in Silicone Valley last December, I showed the "Idea Pop-up Cards" to their engineers. They enjoyed playing with the Cards and seemed to get interested in TRIZ. The #0002 and #0003 sets of the Cards were given as gifts to the engineers of Google HQ and Apple Computer HQ, respectively. Even without knowing about TRIZ, they immediately enjoyed playing with the Cards as a handy and pleasant tool for stimuating their ideas.Apr. 20, 2009 Rikie Ishii (Preseident, Miyagi TRIZ Study Group)

Rikie Ishii (Dunamis Co., Ltd.) [Miyagi TRIZ Study Group] [O-9 #38] gave an oral presentation with the title of "How to Use TRIZ Quickly and Effectively in Small Companies". The Author is an active young entrepreneur-oriented person and is organizing a group of people in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, for studying and promoting TRIZ. The Group sent enquiries to over 1000 SMEs in Miyagi Prefecture. They found: (1) 39 TRIZ Parameters are useful as the tool for hearing the technical issues/problems. (2) Technical issues are mostly relevant to 8 Parameters. (3) Among the 31 Trends of technical evolution, most companies recognizes only top 1/3 trends are relevant to their products. On the basis of these findings, the Author has developed the following three handy tools:
Their first tool is a small (8x8) Contradiction Matrix. Since only 8 Parameters are found most relevant, the Matrix was much reduced into 8x8. The 8 Parameters are: Temperature, Reliability, Precision of measurement, Manufacturability, Difficulty of detection and measurement, Degree of automation, and Productivity. Their second tool is named 'Worksheets for Technical Breakthroughs'. Its concepts are described in the slide below. The center figure shows its page for guiding the user to the 8 pages corresponding to the 8 often used Parameters. The right figure illustrates the page for one of the 8 Parameters, where 3 Inventive Principles are shown as the hints.
